Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on Southern Europe: of the front line in Sicily, on July 30, with the Allies stated to be 4 km south of Troina; a Sicily situation report for July 29, noting an expectation of renewed Allied attacks on the 29th and 15th Panzer Grenadier Divisions and the Hermann Goering Division; that the 29th and 15th Panzer Grenadier Divisions are to withdraw on the night of July 29-30; on details of the locations of elements of the 1st and 2nd Parachute Divisions, on July 27; that the 2nd Air Fleet orders the Fascist emblems on aircraft to be replaced, on July 28; a situation report for July 29, on the Allies being dug in near Castel Di Tusa, and Allied forces attacking south of Mistretta and north east of Nicosia; that the Italian Admiralty order the renaming of the battleship Littorio to Italian and of the destroyer Camilia Nera to Artigliere, on July 30; that German Air Force (GAF) bomber units were ordered to keep a sufficient fuel reserve available for a transfer at short notice to North Italy, on July 29; and that GAF long-range bomber units are apparently withdrawing from Italy, on July 29; on Germany: a report of Allied air raids over Germany, with aircraft factories being damaged at Kassel and Oschersleben, on July 28; and from the Japanese ambassador in Istanbul, detailing discussions on the war situation with the German ambassador and counsellor, on July 28.
