Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on Southern Europe: a situation report from the German naval authorities in Genoa, noting no disturbances, on July 27; that a transport unit is without aircraft following an air raid on Aquino, on July 23; the 15th Panzer Grenadier Division reports an increasing number of tank breakdowns due to a lack of spares, on July 27; that the Fortress Battalion is to be ferried to Sicily on July 26; that locations on the east coast of Sardinia were identified as targets for Allied landings on July 27; that two German Air Force (GAF) ground attack units are to return to Germany from Southern Italy, on July 26; of the Sicilian coast between Ognina and Fiumefreddo being shelled by Allied Motor torpedo boats, on July 26; of a German Naval instruction to U-boats under attack from the air, on July 26; and that the Italian minelayer Durazzo ran aground in Pinarello Bay following a submarine attack, on July 27; on South-east Europe: of a special railway movement STACHELBEERE being ordered to run at six trains daily, on July 27; a day report for July 27; on the 2nd phase of an operation in the area south east of Valona which was begun on July 21; that the GAF attacked guerrilla bands west-north-west of Sarajevo; and of the Admiral Commanding the Aegean's instructions in the event of hostilities on the part of the Italians.
