This file includes the following reports on Southern Europe: of German troops being ordered to exercise the greatest restraint towards Italians, on July 26; situation reports on the battle in Sicily, including a list of serviceable weapons; and that the fighting morale of Italian troops has been lowered by the expectation of an early end of the war, on July 26; from the Brazilian ambassador in Madrid, on Allied strategy following the expected fall of Sicily, and on the Spanish internal situation, on July 23; a German circular Press directive in light of the Italian change of government, on July 26; and from the Portuguese ambassador to the Vatican, on the Italian situation, as at July 26.
