A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on Southern Europe: of an Allied landing at Melito, south-east of Reggio, on July 24; a situation report in Sicily, for July 24; that German Air Force (GAF) ammunition stocks west of Catania are to be removed or blown up, on July 24; on the dispositions of German troops in southern Italy, on July 24; that leave for all German armed forces personnel operating in the Italian area is prohibited from July 27 until at least August 6, on July 24; of Allied raids on Leverano and Crotone on July 23; that reinforcements in men and weapons are to be landed by gliders in Catania, on July 24; and that the Messina Straits are closed at night to German E-boats owing to the presence of British motor gun boats, on July 24.
