Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on Southern Europe: of a suspected Allied paratroop landing south of Naples, on July 22; on the Axis military chain of command in Sicily, on July 21; and that the Germans claim sinkings of merchant tonnage on the east coast of Sicily, on July 22; on South-east Europe: of a successful Allied attack on Preveza, in western Greece, on July 22; a German secret service report on Kesselring's view that Sicily would develop like Tunis and on the lack of morale in Italy, on July 23; Naval Headlines; and that the Japanese ambassador in Berlin is anxious to visit Hitler, on July 19.
