This file includes the following reports on Southern Europe: a situation report on Sicily for July 21; on subordination of the flak forces defending the Straits of Messina, on July 23; that flak units on Sicily are to send to mainland men with families to support them, and receive replacements in exchange, on July 20; the 2nd Air Fleet's situation report, for July 22; that German Air Force (GAF) reconnaissance aircraft revealed a tank battle south of Palermo, on July 22; that the German naval authorities are preparing to evacuate Palermo, on July 22; that an attack on Allied parachutists in Sardinia is intended for July 23; and that Fliegerfuehrer Sardinia was allotted by Fieldmarshal Richtofen disciplinary powers of the Divisional Commander over the GAF in Sardinia and Corsica, on July 22; on South-east Europe: of the orders for an anti-guerilla operation to be carried out in central Crete, on July 12; and a situation report on all fronts for July 20, including an Allied landing attempt in northern Norway which was repulsed.
