Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on Southern Europe: that the loading of landing craft by large units south-east of Catania was established by German Air Force (GAF) reconnaissance on July 19; that Kesselring perceives the main danger of an Allied landing on the Italian mainland is in the Gulf of Squillage, on July 16; of a successful Allied air attack on a GAF heavy fighter airfield in Italy, on July 18; that an Allied landing operation is intended at the mouth of the Narenta on the Adriatic, on July 11; that Licata airfield is to be attacked on the night of July 19; and the Italians report that Allied ships are shelling the Sardinian coast, on July 19; on South-east Europe: GAF situation reports for July 18; from the Japanese ambassador in Istanbul, on Turkey and the war situation, on July 15; from the Japanese ambassador in Berlin, giving the views of Gottfriessen on the Sicilian situation, on July 15; and from the Japanese minister in Madrid, relaying the views of General Jordana on the Allied offensive plans, on July 15.
