This file contains the following messages: from C to the Prime Minister (PM) suggesting that no action should be taken on a possible Portuguese agent; from the PM to C asking for action to be taken on a Portuguese traitor, on July 11 (see the Japanese telegrams below); from the Japanese minister in Lisbon, forwarding information from a Portuguese police commissioner on the British request to Salazar for the Azores, on July 3 and 5; and from the Japanese minister in Madrid, on the U.K.'s desire for the Azores, on July 5. This file also includes the following reports on South-east Europe: of the German Air Force's (GAF's) intentions for the night of July 5-6; that damage to railways in Yugoslavia necessitates the allocation of GAF transport aircraft, on June 29; and that the Axis expect an Allied landing in Greece, on July 2; on South Europe: that the Axis are only to destroy water supplies where there is no Italian civil population, on July 4; that Kesselring warns of the transfer of a specially trained harassing air unit to North Africa, on July 3; that the GAF in Sardinia is unable to re-fuel its long-range bombers, on July 3; and of the GAF's orders for July 6; German intelligence in Lisbon reports to Berlin on Allied invasion plans, on July 2; from the Spanish ambassador in London, that U.S. Catholic bishops have asked Churchill to avoid bombing Rome, on July 2; and from the Spanish Foreign Minister and ambassador in London, on Anglo-Spanish relations, on July 5.
