Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on South Europe: that elements of the 29th Panzer Division are moving to Sicily, on July 14-15; of reinforcements heading to Sicily, on July 15; that the Schmalz Group is caught in heavy fighting, on July 15-16; that an Italian Stuka unit is to attack warships at Catania on July 17; that German Air Force (GAF) fighter bombers are to expel enemy warships from the Bay of Catania, on July 16; a GAF report on the front line in Sicily, for July 16; that 100 British tanks are south of Reitano, on July 15; that a battalion of the 14th Panzer Corps is encircled, on July 16; that Kesselring orders the Hermann Goering Division to hold the line by offensive operations, on July 16; that German liaison staff with the 6th Italian Army are to set up a battle HQ to control the German forces, on July 14; that General Mahnke has been entrusted with the orderly evacuation of western Sicily, on July 16; that the ferry service from Sardinia-Corsica is threatened by a lack of fuel, on July 15; and that the 29th Panzer Grenadier Division reaches the Reggio area, on July 14.
