Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on South Europe: of measures to be taken to stop deserters congesting the road to Messina, on July 14; that a German Air Force (GAF) night-fighter unit is to operate against shipping off Sicily, on July 11; that Axis ground forces in Sicily are to prepare the demolition of roads and bridges in good time, on July 14; that the German Navy is to transfer to Italy from Trapani and Palermo, on July 14; that German troops are to occupy key points on roads and railways in Sicily to prevent demolition by the Italians, on July 14; of a GAF shortage of air support forces, on July 14; of reinforcement for the Schmalz Group; and that Allied parachutists land in the Lentini area, on July 13; on the Mediterranean: of Axis shipping losses, on July 14 (two reports); and on South-east Europe: of the GAF's intentions for July 15 including the transfer of fighters and bombers to Italy.
