Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on South Europe: of the German Air Force (GAF) abandoning its airfields in west Sicily, on July 13; that German supply bases in west Sicily are to be evacuated, on July 14; that unloading is to cease at Palermo as the main effort is to be on the eastern base, on July 14; that Kesselring orders the seizure of Italian vehicles, on July 14; that the GAF require to know if further dropping of paratroops is intended, on July 14; that paratroops are to be dropped on July 14, with He111s and Ju52s to be used (two reports); a return on the GAF airfields in west Sicily, for July 13; that Catania airfield is not serviceable for landing, on July 13; that Reggio airfield was closed by air attacks, on July 12; of an Allied air attack on Chitarra airfield, on July 13; that the Germans are under heavy attack, and the Italians surrender Catania, on July 14; that Kesselring orders that no man is to leave Sicily, on July 13; that the Germans appreciate the Allies to be attacking in broken ground in Sicily, on July 12; of panic at Trapani, on July 13; that the Italian coastal defence was withdrawn from Catania, on July 14; that the Germans are preparing to destroy their ration stocks at Palermo and Trapani, on July 14; that the Hermann Goering Division was ordered to restore the situation at Catania, on July 14; that the German Schmalz Brigade is to withdraw from the Lentini area on July 14; of plans for 3 GAF bomber groups to move to the Foggia area, on July 13; of the unloading jetty at Molini being destroyed by civilians, on July 14; and a GAF HQ report on the general ground situation, for July 14; and on the Southern Russian Front: of GAF reconnaissance results, on July 13.
