This file includes the following reports on South Europe: a German Air Force (GAF) report on the German front line in Sicily, on July 14; a Commander in Chief (C-in-C) South report for July 14, noting that German forces are retiring before Allied advances; that GAF reconnaissance sights a large convoy east of Sicily, on July 15; that Axis E-boats are to operate in the Augusta-Syracuse area, on July 15; that the Germans are to set up gendarmerie posts on the Straits of Messina to prevent unauthorised German troops from returning to the mainland, on July 14; that the 6th Italian Army has 54 serviceable tanks, as at July 11; and that the GAF alleges the Allies are using aircraft with German markings, on July 15.
