Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on South Europe: a German Air Force (GAF) report on the German front line in Sicily, on July 14; a Commander in Chief (C-in-C) South report for July 14, noting that German forces are retiring before Allied advances; that GAF reconnaissance sights a large convoy east of Sicily, on July 15; that Axis E-boats are to operate in the Augusta-Syracuse area, on July 15; that the Germans are to set up gendarmerie posts on the Straits of Messina to prevent unauthorised German troops from returning to the mainland, on July 14; that the 6th Italian Army has 54 serviceable tanks, as at July 11; and that the GAF alleges the Allies are using aircraft with German markings, on July 15.
