This file includes the following reports on South Europe: that the Hermann Goering Division is going over to defence, on July 12; of Allied tanks moving out from Augusta, on July 13; of a German Air Force (GAF) Do217 bomber unit, fully trained in night flying, being subordinate to the 2nd Air Fleet, on July 12; of an indication that the 2nd Air Fleet has insufficient forces for air support on July 13; that a GAF fighter transferred from Sardinia to Sicily, on July 12; that German paratroops are to be dropped as reinforcements west of Catania, on July 12; that the Hermann Goering Division is withdrawing, with the Italian divisional HQ surrounded, on July 13; of an Allied raid on Reggio, resulting in GAF communications being destroyed, on July 12; that 14,000 men of the 26th Panzer Division and the HQ of the 14th Panzer Corps are en route to Reggio, on July 13; that a GAF unit is to move at once from San Pietro to Catania, on July 12; and that the Germans on Sicily seek artillery and anti-tank support, on July 13.
