Description

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on South Europe: of orders for German Air Force (GAF) attacks in Sicily on July 12; Trapani reports an attack to be imminent, on July 12; that Trapani reverts to a lower state of readiness, on July 12; that Italian E-boats are to attack the Allies off Cape Passero on July 12; of Axis air force claims of shipping being sunk off Sicily, on July 11; that GAF aircraft were destroyed in an Allied raid on probably Trapani, on July 11; that the Fortress Battalion has not transferred to Sicily, on July 10; and that security at Ottana airfield in Sardinia is to be tightened after an act of sabotage, on July 11; on South-east Europe: of an arrangement to ship Italian troops to Crete, on July 11; on friction between the Italian and Bulgarian forces in Yugoslavia, on June 29; and on the Southern Russian Front: a GAF afternoon report for July 11; and a GAF report for July 9.
