Description

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on South Europe: that the German Air Force (GAF) group at Toulouse airfield is to take precautions against bombing, on July 10; of GAF reconnaissance of landing craft off Augusta, on July 11; a GAF report of ships and landing craft, on July 11; that German strong points at Leghorn are to be stocked with rations and ammunition, on July 9; and that the supplying of coastal battalions on Sardinia is difficult because of a lack of transport, on July 11; Naval Headlines; from the Chinese minister to the Vatican, on Italian measures against defeatism, on June 30; from the Japanese ambassador in Berlin, on arrangements for the distribution of new codes in Europe, on July 6; and from the Prime Minister (PM) to General Ismay and C: a digest of BONIFACE material on fighting in the Balkans, on July 11.
