Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on South Europe: that a German E-boat flotilla demolishes the pier at Augusta and departs, on July 10; of Allied paratroop landings west of Donna Fugata, on the evening of July 9; that the German Air Force's (GAF's) Sciacca airfield is serviceable after Allied raids, on July 9; that FW190 aircraft are flying from Sardinia to Sicily, on the morning of July 10; that GAF units in Sardinia are to be ready for transfer, on July 10; a GAF appreciation of the Allied landing, on July 10; on GAF visual reconnaissance of the Allied landing fleet, early on July 10; that Empedocle harbour is rendered unusable, as of the morning of July 10; that the German 7th E-boat flotilla is to demolish Augusta and move to northern Italy, on July 10; that the Italian Navy orders an anti-submarine sweep off Corsica, on July 10; and that a state of readiness was ordered at Taormina, on the morning of July 10; on South-east Europe: that the Italian Admiralty order increased watchfulness at Rhodes, on the evening of July 9; Naval Headlines, covering the German reaction to the Allied fleet off Norway; from the Japanese ambassador in Moscow, a discussion of the non-provision of bases to the Allies, on June 28; from the Japanese ambassador to Berlin, reporting his anxiety to see Hitler before the departure of the Japanese liaison mission, on July 6; that the German Navy suspends a U-boat offensive because of Allied counter-measures, on July 6; from the Portuguese minister in Rome, on the internal situation, as of July 7; and 119850 (see 3838).
