Description

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on Germany: that signals personnel are being withdrawn from western France to provide increased Radio Direction Finder (RDF) protection, on July 1; on the Russian Front: that Soviet troops are to land in Crimea in order to cut off the Kertsch and Kuban bridgehead, on June 30; Naval Headlines; from the Japanese military attach� in Madrid, a Spanish General Staff report on British preparations to use gas in air raids on Germany, on July 1; from the Chinese minister in Ankara, giving the Turkish view of the Allied strategy, on June 29; from the German Embassy in Ankara, warning of an impending Allied attack on the Dodecanese, on June 20; from the Portuguese minister in Rome, detailing Italian defence measures, on June 30; and from the Portuguese ambassador in London, on the U.K. economy, on July 1.
