Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on Southern Europe: that 88mm guns are in transit to be mounted in a specially arranged firing position on vessels with sufficient deck space, on June 21; of German concern over the Italians' laying of drift-mines, on June 29; that on or before June 23 General Fieldmarshal Von Richtofen ordered Foggia airfield to be closed, and that on June 26 he was to inspect all German Air Force (GAF) flying units on Sardinia; that Kesselring is in the Mediterranean on September 26; that General Lieutenant Von Senger and Etterin are to become Ground Officer Commanding (GOC) the German Armed Forces in Sicily, and the German liaison officer with the Italian 6th Army, respectively, on June 27; Naval Headlines; that the German 76th Army Corps, 3rd Panzer Grenadier Division and 26th Panzer Division are to move immediately from France to central Italy, on June 26; CX/MSS/2818/T5 (see 3726).
