Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on Southern Europe: that the 16th Panzer Division expects operational readiness by July 31, as of June 21; and that no military damage was caused by a bombing raid on Calabrian coastal towns in the Messina Straits area, on June 27; on South-east Europe: of a general strike being called in Athens and Piraeus for June 25, primarily against the hostage system of the occupying powers and their shooting of hostages; from the Japanese minister in Sofia, forwarding Bulgarian intelligence on the Turkish situation, on June 17; from the Japanese ambassador in Rome, giving the views of the head of the Stefani agency, on June 17; from the German ambassador in Rome, noting views on the war situation, on June 22; and from the Portuguese minister in Rome, describing the Italian internal situation, on June 22.
