Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on the Mediterranean/Southern Europe: that both the Italian and German military authorities consider an Allied major offensive in the Mediterranean area to be imminent, as of June 23/24; a German Air Force (GAF) situation report for June 24, stating that the Romanian oilfield fires are considered by the German secret service to have been started by lightning; a further GAF report for June 24; that a GAF fighter pilot identifies landing stages at Malta, on June 24; on the results of Allied air raids on Sardinian ports and airfields, on June 24; a further report on the Allied raids of the 24th; on the results of an Allied air raid on a Sardinian airfield at Venafiorita, on June 24; that all GAF fighters in Sicily are to immediately fit bomb racks, on June 24; a very detailed summary of the present and future Axis military supply situation for southern Italy, Sicily, Sardinia and Corsica, on June 22; on the results of an Allied air raid on Salonica, on June 24; and that the Air Officer Commanding (AOC) of the 2nd Air Fleet arranges for an inspection tour of Sicily by the Chief Inspector for the Western Region, on June 20; on Western Europe: of the results of Allied air raids on targets in Belgium and Germany, on June 22; and that GAF units in Germany request new armour-plating for their fighters as Allied large-scale bomber attacks with fighter escorts are expected, on June 17; and on the Russian Front: that Axis bombers continue to attack Russian military and industrial targets, on June 23/24.
