A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on the Mediterranean/Southern Europe: that air defence elements of the Hermann Goering Division are to protect the Division's transfer to Sicily via the Straits of Messina, on June 19; a German Air Force (GAF) summary for June 21, noting that Allied aircraft are supplying partisans, and that 6 railway bridges were destroyed in Greece; a German naval and air summary for June 20/21, in which a German agent reports that some 250 Allied ships are still in the Oran area and all are ready to sail; from the Portuguese ambassador in London, describing talks with Eden on June 21 probably concerning the Allied earlier request to use facilities in the Azores, in which Eden emphasises absolute secrecy in the negotiations and that to divulge information to Spain would be as good as giving it direct to the Germans, but the ambassador considered it essential to discuss this with Spain, so the ambassador is to accompany Eden to Madrid, accompanied by U.K. military VIPs; and from the Portuguese minister in Berlin, noting speculation by neutral diplomats in Berlin on the prolonged period of Allied inactivity, on June 19.
