Description

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports: Naval Headlines; on the Mediterranean/Italy: of German Air Force (GAF) elements located at Brindisi, on June 17; that GAF staff officers arrive at Piacenza, on June 17, with further reinforcements expected; that the Germans sell anti-aircraft guns and associated equipment to the Italians, on June 12; of Allied air strikes against Comiso airfield, on June 17; of an air raid against Comiso on June 17, with considerable GAF losses; of simultaneous air attacks against Gela and San Pietro airfields; that the Hermann Goering Division is to be shipped to Sicily starting on June 19; of an Allied air attack against San Pietro in Sicily, on June 17; listings of GAF airfields and units in northern Italy and south-western France, for June 17; and that the French authorities mount an urgent seaborne supply operation for Corsica, on June 17; on the Russian Front: that a GAF dive-bomber unit withdraws from Crimea to Athens, on June 17; and of combat operations in the Leningrad area, on June 16; and on Yugoslavia: that Operation SCHWARZ in Montenegro was successfully completed, on June 16.
