Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on Southern Europe: that the air defences of airfields in western Sicily was the primary commitment, on June 14; two reports highlighting the appearance of a new fighter-bomber unit whose mission is to attack Allied shipping, on June 14; of four tanks being shipped to Sardinia, on June 14; of further ground reinforcements for Sicily, on June 13; that Allied air attacks on minor Axis vessels lead the Italian naval authorities at Patras to consider arming certain categories of these vessels, on June 14; and of 15 aircraft being destroyed by an Allied air raid on Gerbini, on June 13; on the Russian Front: of night raids by the German Air Force (GAF) on the Saratov oil refinery and the Gorki tank works; from the Foreign Minister in Tokyo, describing Japanese-Russian discussions concerning Allied supplies to Russia via Vladivostock, on June 4; and SHARK: reporting success on June 9, 10 and 12.
