Description

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports: an ULTRA/BONIFACE report for Air Commodore Spencer, an alias for the Prime Minister (PM); on the Mediterranean: of damage at Lecce airfield, on June 2; that German Air Force (GAF) personnel in Sicily are being armed for ground fighting, on June 1; and that GAF Southeast are unable to release signals personnel, on June 3; from the Japanese minister in Sofia, on doubts about a German offensive on the Russian Front, from May 13; from the Japanese ambassador in Rome, on German policy on the Russian Front, on May 22; and on Italian morale, as of May 31; and from the Japanese minister in Madrid, on Allied air raids and propaganda being aimed at detaching Italy from Germany, on May 31.
