A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on North Africa: that the 19th Flak Division claims to have broken heavy Allied tank attacks east of Hammam Lif, on May 9; an Army Group Africa situation report for May 8, detailing heavy fighting along the whole front against superior Allied armoured forces; that the Allies break through south-east of Lake Bizerta against the 5th Panzer Army; that the majority of the 334th Division is immobilised through a lack of fuel, surrounded and coming under violent attacks; that the German Africa Corps, in a new defensive position of Hammam Lif, repelled strong tank and infantry attacks; that Allied forces penetrated north of Dj Fadeloun in the face of the 1st Italian Army; that Flak elements were withdrawn to support the Western Front at Hammam Lif; and that the defensive strength of the front is stretched to its extreme limit; on proposals for the safest and most economical use of shipping between Sicily and Cape Bon, on May 9; the 19th Flak Division reports the total loss of Battle Group Schonger, on May 9; of landing places considered suitable by the German naval authorities in Tunisia, for small craft and E-boats, on May 9; that no further personnel of the Hermann Goering Division are to be sent to Tunisia; and a situation report from the German Naval Command in Tunisia for May 9, noting that the Allies hold mastery in the air; that the construction of landing places on Cape Bon is impossible because of ceaseless air attacks; and that the unloading of small craft is only possible at night.
