Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on the Mediterranean: a report from the Air Corps at Tunis for May 7, detailing that the Allies are in Tunis; that Bizerta has been evacuated and its installations have been destroyed; and continuous Allied air raids on the line defended by the 5th Panzer Army; that Army Group Africa requests strict observation of the Geneva Convention rules to avoid attacks on hospital ships, on April 30; of a short-term detachment of Me323 transport aircraft to Venafiorita being requested to help the strained transport situation in Sardinia, on May 6; a supply return from the 5th Panzer Army for fuel, ammunition and rations for May 3; that the transport vessel San Francisco is loaded with German and Italian fuel and supplies, and is ready in Leghorn to sail for Tunisia, on May 7; of airfields in western Sicily running short on fuel, with construction lorries to be diverted to fuel transport, on May 7; that because of the fuel shortage, Sicily-based fighters are not to land in Tunisia, on May 8; of proposals for German Air Force (GAF) operations based on Sicily, supporting the forces in Tunisia, on May 7; that the rear Battle HQ of Air Corps Tunis is located in Sicily, on May 7; of a warning from Air Corps Tunis of the impossibility for Me323 aircraft to land in Tunisia by day even with fighter protection, on May 7; that anti-aircraft defences were withdrawn from La Goulette, and the harbour was blocked, on May 7; a Tunis report of the Belluno being hit in an air raid, on May 7; that the Italian crew abandoned the Belluno aground off La Goulette, with 800 PoWs still on board, on May 7; that three small ships are expected at Sidi Daoud on May 8; and that a German submarine carrying ammunition is to be off Kelibia as of May 8-9.
