This file includes the following reports: a general situation report from Berlin for May 4 including the withdrawal of the 17th Army to the planned Goten position on the Russian Front, and in Africa the withdrawal of the north wing of the west front to a new line from west of Bizerta-east of Mateur-south-west of Tebourba; on North Africa: of arrangements for closing down Bizerta, on May 4-5; of a request from the Hermann Goering Division for experienced officer replacements to cover heavy losses, on May 1; of the 5th Panzer Army's request for spares essential to the serviceability of Tiger tanks, on May 1; a serviceability report from the Air Corps at Tunis for May 4; and that the German Air Force (GAF) ordered twice daily air reconnaissances around Sardinia to seek Allied operations, on May 4; on the Mediterranean: of a convoy including the Carbonello sailing on May 4 with air cover; that German submarines at Spezia and Toulon are to be made ready to transport petrol, on May 5; a German Naval Command in Tunisia report of naval artillery being engaged with Allied tanks, on May 4; and that Panzer Grenadier regiments are being assembled in Sicily at Trapani and Palermo, on May 2.
