Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on North Africa: that the Italians plan to sail 8 steamships to Tunisia during the first 10 days of May; that the Italian Naval Command at Bizerta asks the HQ in Rome whether it could use local Italian and German resources to meet requests to reinforce the northern Tunisian Front, on May 1; of 2 German Air Force (GAF) fighter groups totalling some 60 aircraft being withdrawn from Tunisia to Sicily, on May 1; and that the personnel of the Hermann Goering Division, who were sent to Tunis by a destroyer, from which they were evacuated after an Allied attack and then returned to Italy by a hospital ship, must return immediately to Tunis without being given any special leave, on May 1.
