Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on North Africa: of the results of Allied air raids on the Tunisian port of Sidi Daoud, on April 30; that further elements of the Hermann Goering Division are preparing to embark in Italy for Tunisia, on April 30; that Italian naval authorities in Tunis recommend the suspension of Axis shipping movements to Tunisia until the Allied air blockade is broken, on April 30; and that the seriously wounded are to be evacuated from Tunisia in small vessels as large ships are more likely to be sunk, on May 1; on Yugoslavia: that a visit by the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem to Croatia was considered by the Germans on April 26 to have had a good effect on Moslems, particularly with regard to recruiting for the Moslem SS division, and so German High Command is requested to arrange a similar tour by the Mufti to Albania with Italian agreement; on North Africa: of German tactical movements in Tunisia, on May 1; from the German secret service, a report that originated in Gibraltar on April 30 and was forwarded to Madrid, that Allied military and diplomatic VIPs arrived in Gibraltar on April 26 and departed by air the following day, De Gaulle, Giraud, Eisenhower and Thompson also arrived, and Churchill was said to be expected; Naval Headlines; from the Japanese minister in Madrid, a 'TO' intelligence report received from Washington on April 24 and covering items of military intelligence from the U.S., sent by Madrid to Tokyo on April 27; C suggests to the Prime Minister (PM) that the 'TO' series of Japanese intelligence reports from the U.S. may be false.
