A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on North Africa/the Mediterranean: of a German supply ship being sunk on its return passage from Tunisia, on April 21/22; and of an Italian supply ship being sunk off Corsica, on April 22; Naval Headlines; from the Japanese ambassador in Ankara, on the Turkish attitude to the war, German threats to Turkey, and the fear of Soviet expansion, on April 14; from the Japanese minister in Lisbon, on the possibility of peace moves in the U.K. and the U.S., the threat of Communist dominance of Europe, the pressure being put on neutral countries, and likely developments in the Pacific theatre, on April 16; from the Turkish ambassador in Rome, on Mussolini's visit to Germany on 7 April for talks with Hitler, highlighting strains in the Axis alliance, on April 7; and a note to the Prime Minister (PM) from C concerning the exploitation of SHARK sigint material.
