Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on the Mediterranean: that German Air Force (GAF) units in Sardinia received orders to prepare to counter a possible impending Allied glider attack, on April 19; a Naval Headlines report of April 17; the Prime Minister (PM) queries the First Sea Lord (ISL) as to the tonnage of two Italian torpedo boats sunk by British destroyers south of Sicily on April 16; and the ISL's reply; from the Japanese ambassador in Ankara, a report of April 14, that according to reports from Turkish sources via the German Embassy, the British had gone too far with military cooperation with Turkey, General Wilson was postponing a visit to Turkey and the Turkish President was not returning to Ankara but instead going to Thrace; and a report of April 16 stating that General Wilson had arrived in Ankara on April 15 but that the ambassador expected his stay to be brief; and from the Japanese minister in Madrid, a report of March 14 on a special intelligence report from Washington on the previous day, describing U.S./U.K. negotiations over the use of U.S. troops after the completion of the North African campaign, and that the U.K. insists that Europe must take priority over the Pacific theatre, which is contrary to U.S. wishes.
