Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on North Africa: that at Sousse evacuation and demolition are to be effected by April 10; that the Italian Tobruk Battalion was lost at Akarit, on April 9; that the Italian authorities in Tunisia propose that ships come without an escort because of the urgent supply situation, on April 9; that Kesselring agrees that only fuel will be flown to Tunisia, on April 7; that fresh German troops are to be sent to Africa before Italian troops, on April 7; of German naval reinforcements that are ready to leave for Tunisia, on April 7; that the Ground Officer Commanding (GOC) Army Group Africa complains that Italian troops are being withdrawn without permission, on April 7; that the line from Sousse-Kairouan was agreed as the boundary for demolitions, on April 7; that the 1st Italian Army is to withdraw, on April 7; and of the 1st Italian Army's order of battle on the new line, on April 7; on the Mediterranean: of harbour resources at Trapani being reduced by an Allied air raid, on April 7; and of the Commandant at Lemnos being ordered to form anti-aircraft gun crews from the available personnel including officials and civilians, on April 8.
