Description

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on North Africa: a 1st Italian Army report for March 30, noting that the enemy are pressing on the main defensive front; that the Germans occupy the Akarit position and are ready for its defence, on March 30; that the 21st Panzer Division is in the position ordered, on March 30; of increasing British pressure, with the possibility of a break-out, on March 30; a German report on ground fighting in the Maknassy and El Guettar sectors, on March 30; the Africa Corps reports hard fighting, on March 30; that Group Lang expect an attack in the early morning on March 31; the German Air Force (GAF) at Tunis gives its targets for the night of March 31-April 1; and that GAF large capacity aircraft are to operate to North Africa from March 31.
