Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on North Africa: the Ground Officer Commanding (GOC) the 15th Panzer Division reports strong Allied forces to be advancing on Hamma and that blocking to the south-west is urgent, on March 27; that Axis elements are to be withdrawn from Kebili to a new position west of Hamma, on March 27; that the Axis infantry is retiring towards Hamma, on March 27; that the 1st Battalion of the 21st Panzer Division is to move to Oasis, on March 27; that the 15th and 21st Panzer Divisions are retiring, on March 27; of strong indications that the 164th Division had lost the greater part of its vehicles and heavy weapons, on March 25; the German Air Force (GAF) at Tunis reports that the airfields at Gabes are no longer serviceable, on March 27; the Chief Quartermaster (QM) of Army Group Africa reports a strained fuel situation, on March 27; a GAF Tunis situation report of March 27 including that Axis operations were hindered by weather, and also heavy Allied attacks; two reports of March 26 from Army Group Africa stating no change in the northern and central sectors; that the importance of smashing the Allied seaborne supplies was stressed to the GAF in Sardinia, on March 27; that the battle strength of the Grenadier Battalions was considerably reduced by Allied artillery fire, on March 26; that elements of the 90th Light Division are to be sent to the 164th Division, on March 27; that two reconnaissance units in the Kebili area have only one anti-tank gun left between them, on March 27; two reports of March 27 that Flak units are moving into the Hamma position; an intelligence report of March 26 issued by Army Group Africa; a GAF Tunis situation report, for March 27; and that Allied intelligence is considered by the Axis authorities to be very good, on March 26; and on the Mediterranean: that an Allied submarine torpedoes an Italian vessel in Milazzo harbour, on March 27.
