Description

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on North Africa: that prisoners report a French intention to attack south of El Guettar, on March 25; of the 164th Light Division's orders and instructions, on March 25; that Kesselring orders the 2nd Air Corps to make night attacks on the Marknassy/Gafsa road, on March 25; that General Messe assesses that the main Allied effort will be made in the south-west sector, on March 25; that Liebenstein is to defend the same line as before for March 26; of allocations of munitions to the 164th Infantry Division, on March 25; that the Kebili Garrison is to withdraw under pressure, on March 25; the 21st Panzer Division's tank return, for March 25; a German Air Force (GAF) at Tunis situation report, for March 25; a report on a shortage of aircraft fuel in Tunisia, on March 25; and of damage caused at Sousse harbour after an Allied air raid, on March 25; on the Mediterranean: the German Navy reported that 10 ships for carrying landing-craft entered the Gibraltar Straits eastbound, on March 24; and that GAF Sardinia is ordered to attack the eastbound convoy with all its forces at dawn on March 26.
