Description

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on North Africa: a report on fighting in the Marknassy area, noting heavy Axis losses in terms of motor transport, on March 24; a reconnaissance unit's report, on March 24; the 21st Panzer Division's situation report, for March 24; that Kebili Garrison, subordinate to the 164th Division, is to withdraw in the event of strong Allied pressure, on March 24; and that Kesselring orders that targets at sea are to be attacked only by torpedo aircraft, if bombers should be required for operations on the southern Tunisian Front, on March 25; on the Russian Front: of a German withdrawal in Kuban, on March 24; on Europe: that fighter defences of north-west Germany are to be strengthened, on March 25; from the Japanese ambassador in Buenos Aires, on the conflicting interests of the U.K. and the U.S., on March 13; and from the Turkish minister in Lisbon, forwarding intelligence from the former ex-Khedive, on March 20.
