Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on North Africa: that the German Africa Corps is to join up with the 10th Panzer Division and the Italian Centauro Division and form an independent battle group in an attempt to restore the situation, following the Allied major attack, on March 21; that Panzer Unit 501 is to move to the vicinity of the 10th Panzer Division, on March 21; that the 10th Panzer Division is moving up into the area of the Italian Centauro Division, on March 21; of an Italian battle group withdrawing on the night of March 21/22 and leaving a small rearguard in Maknassy; the Tunis Air Corps' report for March 22, that the Allies captured Maknassy; on the retreat of the Centauro Division; and of a counter-attack by the 21st Panzer Division and preparation for a counter-attack by the 10th Panzer Division; tactical combat reports for March 21; a Tunis Air Corps reconnaissance report of March 22 including observations of some 6000 Allied vehicles; that the German Air Force (GAF) claims good results from air raids against Allied positions overnight on March 21/22; that anti-tank forces are to strengthen the Axis front line, on March 21; of an Allied air attack against Mezzouna airfield, on March 22; of the Tunis Air Corps' reconnaissance of Allied vehicles and tanks, on March 22; on details of the main Allied thrust against the Mareth position, on March 20; that GAF dive-bombers are to deploy to the southern Tunisian sector, on March 23; of the GAF's combat plans for the night of March 22/23; very detailed reports of Allied air attacks against Axis ground forces and airfields, on March 20/21; that a GAF fighter squadron is to deploy from Northern Tunisia to strengthen fighter defences in the south, on March 23; of Axis claims for Allied losses in northern Tunisia, from February 26 - March 19, sent during the late evening of March 20 together with highlights of activity in Tunisia and in the Mediterranean on March 20; and on details of tank reinforcements and other technical equipment to be shipped by landing craft from Italy to Bizerta on March 22/23; and on the Russian Front: on German claims of further gains north-east of Kharkov, on March 21.
