Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on North Africa: an Army Group Africa report for March 19, stating that an Allied major attack on the Mareth Front is expected at any time as the Allied forces are now all in position; that the Axis forces are gaining ground in northern Tunisia but all combat operations are being severely hampered by very poor weather conditions; that sodden airfields in Tunisia are unsuitable for forward deployments by aircraft of the German Air Force (GAF) 2nd Air Corps, on March 21; that bomber forces of the 2nd Air Corps are required to operate over Tunisia on March 21 in support of Axis ground forces; and a signal from General Montgomery to the Prime Minister (PM) sent at 1330 on March 21 stating that Operation PUGILIST, the Allied major attack against the Mareth area, was successfully launched on March 20.
