This file includes the following reports on North Africa: a 5th Panzer Army report for February 28 and their combat plans for March 1, noting that little progress was made against the Allied forces; an Army Group Africa report for February 28, stating that forces are moving towards the Mareth Front and Axis units are regrouping for a southern operation; that the 5th Panzer Army was instructed by Army Group Africa to conclude their operations on the northern sector as soon as possible; of regrouping for the Mareth Front; that the 10th and 21st Panzer Divisions are moving south, on February 28; that Kesselring agrees with Rommel that preparations for Operation BONIN must take precedence over Operation ARNIM, on February 27; that the German Air Force (GAF) in Sardinia was instructed on March 1 to carry out additional defence against Allied attacks by night against Axis airfields; that Allied air attacks against Cagliari and the airfield at Elmas resulted in severe damage, on February 28; that a request for ME-210 aircraft to replace JU-88 aircraft for the reconnaissance of Allied convoys was refused, on February 23; and that 2 new generals appointed to take over the 5th Panzer Army and the German Africa Corps are to leave Berlin for Rome on March 1.
