Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on North Africa: the Panzer Army in Africa's situation report for February 18 and their plans for February 19, with the continued intention to advance on Tebessa with assistance from the 5th Panzer Army and the 21st Division; on the Russian Front: of Soviet advances, on February 19; from the Japanese acting ambassador in Rome, forwarding an instruction from Tokyo on February 10 to relay a morale-boosting message from the Japanese Prime Minister to Mussolini and the Italian Prime Minister; and the reply from Mussolini; from the Portuguese minister in Stockholm, regarding speculation on the progress of the war and the dangers of Soviet Communism spreading into Europe, on February 16; from the Japanese ambassador in Ankara, that Turkish government sources indicate that the main purpose of the Allied summit in Adana was to discuss the threat of Communism spreading to Europe following Soviet military successes and to consider a possible rapprochement with Germany; that the discussions were perceived as anti-Soviet; and that Turkey could mediate in any future rapprochement with Germany and the Allies.
