Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on North Africa: a Panzer Army situation report for February 15, noting a fighting rearguard action; that the 15 Panzer Div was ordered to fall back; that other Axis forces are now to occupy Gafsa after the Allied forces make a tactical withdrawal from there; of Allied ships in Tripoli; of strong Allied formations totalling some 1500 tanks and armoured vehicles attempting to outflank Axis forces; a German secret service report sent from Berlin to Rome on February 14 on the subject of British 8th Army special recce vehicles infiltrating behind Axis lines; a Naval Headlines report for February 16 on German and Italian naval activity and a brief summary of progress on the Russian Front, reflecting a continuing Axis retreat; from the Japanese ambassador in Kujbyshev, reporting speculation on the future progress of the war as seen in local diplomatic circles in early February, with an expected Soviet victory on the Russian Front; diplomatic report 114262 is not included, this was sent to the Secretary of State via Mr Loxley on February 17.
