Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on North Africa: that Hitler orders German Air Force (GAF) attacks on Tripoli harbour as a top priority, on February 13; a 5th Panzer Army report for February 12, claiming identification of British regiments in the 139th Brigade acting as an independent unit; a Panzer Army report for February 11, stating that an attack on Gafsa is planned for the morning of February 16 subject to weather conditions; a GAF report for February 13 noting German rearguard positions on the line from Tatahouine-Kirchaou-10 km south and 10 km east of Ben Gardane; and that GAF support to the 10th Panzer Division is to be given according to verbal instructions; the German-Italian Panzer Army's operations report for February 13, stating that a strong Allied outflanking movement is expected in the area of Ben Gardane; of a GAF assessment of Allied stocks of ammunition and fuel in the Gafsa area, on February 12; and that Italian paratroops are carrying out sabotage operations south-west of Bougie, on February 12-13; on the Russian Front: that Soviet attacks from the bridgehead south of Novorossisk were repulsed; of Soviet advances on the north-east Taman front; of the Germans' evacuation of the eastern portion of the Donets bend; and of Soviet penetration to within 10 miles east of Debaltsevo, on February 12; and an all areas German Naval report for February 13, stating that Rodney and Nelson left Gibraltar with a convoy escort heading for the Mediterranean, on February 12; that in the Black Sea the ice situation at Kerch is deteriorating; and that in the North Sea the Hipper entered Wilhelmshaven.
