A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following correspondence: from the Egyptian ambassador in London, on rumours of German peace proposals being discussed at Casablanca, on January 29; from the French minister in Sofia, on the Bulgarian War Minister's visit to Germany, on January 14; from the Greek chargé in Kuibyshev, a report by the Fighting French representative on the Casablanca Conference, and on relations between De Gaulle and Giraud, on January 29; from the Japanese minister in Budapest, on Russian military successes, as of January 26; from the Japanese minister in Lisbon, quotes from Portuguese telegrams from Washington and Rome, on February 1; from the Turkish minister in Bucharest, on Antonescu's visit to Germany, and Hitler's fear of Russia, on January 25; from the Japanese ambassador in Ankara, on the views of the Turkish General Ali Fuat on the Russian campaign, on January 21; from the Japanese ambassador in Berlin, on a discussion of the war situation with Hitler, on January 24; and a report of a meeting with Ribbentrop, on January 24; from the Portuguese minister in Tokyo, describing increasing pessimism over the war situation, as of January 25; Naval Headlines, covering that a patrol line for the Haudegen group of U-boats is to intercept an expected convoy; a refuelling rendezvous for the Jaguar group of U-boats; and that the German cargo ship Lisboa was torpedoed off Sousse. This file also includes a request for the resumption of BONIFACE, on February 1.
