This file includes the following reports on the Russian Front: of orders for the evacuation of Rostov in four days, from January 26; of preparations for the evacuation of Taganrog and Mariupol, on January 27; of German Air Force (GAF) orders for support of the defensive battle of the 6th Army in Stalingrad; and that the German Admiral Commanding in the Black Sea was warned of the consequences of the loss of Caucasian oil, on January 29; on North Africa: that the Deputy Chief of Armed Forces Operations Staff, General Warlimont, is to visit the Air Officer Commanding in Chief (AOCinC) South and German authorities in North Africa to discuss Command, Organisation and Supply; of an order from Hitler subordinating the 5th Panzer Army to the Commando Supremo for operations; that Rommel has been granted sick leave, and is to be succeeded by von Arnim; and on the tasks of the AOCinC South and subordinations; this file also includes a Japanese review of the political situation in the U.S., on January 23; and a message from the Japanese minister in Stockholm, speculating on a possible Allied landing in Sweden.
