This file includes the following reports on North Africa: a Panzer Army report that the withdrawal went according to plan; and that the 21st Panzer Division is to reach Tripoli on the evening of January 16, with its advanced elements at Medenine; a German Air Force (GAF) report for January 17, noting that the Allied thrust was stronger than expected; of the Panzer Army's intentions to withdraw to the Tarhuna-Homs position; that the Panzer Army HQ is to the south-southwest of Tarhuna, as of January 17; a situation report for January 16, for Libya-Tripolitania, that Allied divisions have been identified to the east and south east of Tebessa; an Abwehr report of convoys bringing troops and equipment from the U.K. to North Africa; GAF reports on the planned withdrawal of the Panzer Army; and a line of Allied spearheads from Gheddahia to Faschia, on January 17; a Panzer Army report for January 16, stating that Allied forces were attacking along the whole front; that the 90th Light Division inflicted heavy losses on the Allies in beating off an attack, 56 km west of Beurat; and the 5th Panzer Army's situation report for January 16, noting lively artillery and air activity; on the Russian Front: a 4th Air Fleet situation report for January 16, giving line demarcations; and a situation report for January 17, describing small Soviet penetrations; and on Eastern Europe: that air reconnaissances were ordered to identify threats to convoys from Romania and Bulgaria to the Kerch Peninsula on January 17.
