Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on North Africa: a day report from a German Liaison Officer with an Italian commander for January 15; that the garrison of Umm el Khebir arrived at Mizda; that the garrisons of Tan Idda and Serdeles are moving to Ghat; a German Air Force (GAF) report of an Allied spearhead followed by a large body of transport moving in a northerly direction, on January 16; of Kesselring's orders for the protection of transport aircraft following successful Allied attacks, on January 16; the 5th Panzer Army's day report for January 15, noting increased Allied patrol activity in the Medjez area, and an Allied withdrawal in the 30th Army Corps sector; a situation report from the Panzer Army under Rommel for January 14, noting anticipation of an Allied attack on the southern wing, and giving a comparison of the German-Italian Panzer Army with the British 8th Army's strengths in manpower and armour; on the Russian Front: a 4th Air Fleet report for January 14; a summary of the German aircraft operating; that bombers from the 8th Air Corps are operating in support of the 6th Army's defensive fighting in the Karpovka area; that Romanian bombers attacked locations near Bagayevskaya; that the GAF in the Caucasus supported the rearguard actions of the 1st Panzer Army; of German preparations for the defence of the Kerch Straits, on January 16; a situation report for January 16, stating that a Soviet breakthrough in Bessergenevskaya was contained; and of the German withdrawal line on the west and southwest of Stalingrad; on Germany: that Stuka pilots with blind-flying certificates are to be attached to the aircraft carrier Graf Zeppelin; and in general: a review of the situation in Russia and North Africa from the Commander in Chief (CinC) of the GAF, on January 16.
