This file includes the following reports on Southern Russia: a 4th Air Fleet report for January 11, giving the intended new line of resistance in the Caucasus; on North Africa: a 5th Panzer Army report for January 9, describing an exchange of artillery fire in the Jefna sector; reconnaissance and intelligence reports indicate that the Allies are preparing to attack Dj Chenoufa; an intelligence assessment that the Allies are bringing up reinforcements in the Medjez El Beb area and in the mountains south west of Pont du Fahs preparatory to an attack; reports of the Allies accumulating supplies and fuel around Souk Al Arba and near Telepte; and a German Air Force (GAF) report for January 11, describing an attack on Allied aircraft on an airfield at Telepte; on Northern Europe: of the possible cancellation of the intended sailing of the Scharnhorst through bad weather, on January 12; on Southern Russia: that the 17th Army is withdrawing according to plan from mountain passes in the Caucasus; and that passage across the Kerch Strait is congested due to ferrying troops to Crimea, on January 10; from the Japanese minister in Bucharest, relating the effect of rumours circulating in the wake of heavy Romanian Army casualties; from the Japanese ambassador in Rome, giving an Italian assessment of the war in North Africa; and reporting the Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs' visit to Portugal, on January 7; from the Japanese ambassador in Berlin, giving a German account of the programme for a meeting between Hitler and Antonescu planned for January 11; and reporting a recent visit of the Bulgarian War Minister, on January 9.
