Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on North Africa: that the Panzer Army under Rommel expects an attack on January 13; on details of mining and plans for withdrawal and demolition; and that the lack of a Commander in Chief (C-in-C) in North Africa and the overlapping responsibility in the Gabes area are looked on with grave misgivings, on January 5; a Panzer Army under Rommel day report for January 7, noting that the German Air Force (GAF) claim successful attacks on enemy vehicles; from Kesselring to Rommel detailing anti-tank and anti-aircraft artillery supplies, on January 5; the 5th Panzer Army's day report for January 5, describing the enemy attacking in the Jefna sector to threaten Bizerta, and heavy enemy air activity; that a German-Arab detachment is to move to Tunisia; that Il Duce has banned any proclamation of Tunisian independence; that Burgiba is to be handed to the Italians, on January 5; that, following losses at Palermo caused by an enemy commando unit, Kesselring orders security measures in the harbour areas, on January 5; and GAF Tunis' operational orders to Bizerta for January 8.
