Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on North Africa: a situation report for December 30 on Libya and Tunisia, including that General Juin is commanding the French troops fighting for the Allies; a 5th Panzer Army report for December 30, with Axis successes being claimed; of orders for the German Air Force (GAF) to attack Bone harbour on January 2; that the Italians in Tunisia call for smoke screen equipment to protect the ports at Sfax and Sousse, on January 2; that the Air Officer Commanding (AOC) in Chief South orders the 5th Panzer Army to keep open the El Guettar defile; a situation report for December 30, stating that the Allies are regrouping in Tunisia; and a 5th Panzer Army report for December 31; on the Soviet Union: that the GAF are to make reconnaissance of an Allied Arctic convoy and an attack on Murmansk harbour, on January 1; and of orders to the GAF for operations against the Arctic convoy PQ 20; from the Japanese minister in Budapest, on the war situation, as of December 27; and from the Japanese minister in Madrid, giving the views of the Spanish Foreign Minister on the formation of an Iberian bloc with Portugal and on relations with the Axis and the Allies, on December 28.
