Description

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports on North Africa: that improved unloading is required at Bizerta and Tunis, on December 11; from the Japanese minister in Budapest, giving the Hungarian view of the war, from December 2; from the Japanese minister in Madrid, relating the views of the Spanish Foreign Minister on the war, as of December 7; from the Portuguese ambassador in London, describing a conversation with the Duke of Alva on the prospects for peace, on December 9; from the Turkish minister in Bucharest, conveying the views of the Roumanian Prime Minister on the war, on December 8; from the Turkish Legation in Berne, on rumoured Italian-U.S. contacts and the prospects for the Spanish monarchy, on December 9; and Naval Headlines, covering shipping for North Africa.
